Funeral

Planning your funeral preferences in advance

Record your choices, discuss them and keep the paperwork accessible.

Begin with the main preferences

Write down whether you prefer burial or cremation, the kind of service you want and any cultural or religious wishes. Say when you are comfortable leaving a decision to your family.

Check existing arrangements

Find out whether a plot or other arrangement already exists. Compare providers and ask about local requirements before signing a contract.

Consider payment carefully

Planning ahead does not mean you must pay ahead. If considering prepayment, read the contract and ask about refunds, transfers, price changes and what happens if the provider closes. Get independent advice if terms are unclear.

Share and review

Tell a trusted person where your wishes and any contracts are kept. Keep receipts and provider details together. Review the plan after a move or a major change in circumstances.
